Guiding Questions: Zechariah 9

This is part of the Tanakh Yomi Project.

  1. While the opening verses predict firm chastisements for the neighbor of Judah/Israel, what is the concluding refrain? (Zechariah 9:7)
  2. Is the ruler of Zion (to come) a symbol of power, military achievement — as described in Zechariah 9:9?
  3. Is the description of a supernatural nature?
  4. Has Zechariah 9:9 been given a provenance of import in the Christian testament?
  5. Will Israel/Judah, then, be a militarily powerful entity (Zechariah 9:10)?
  6. Is the “blood of the covenant” (Zechariah 9:11) a reference to the Sinai experience?
  7. Yet, is the tenor of Zechariah 9:12-15 that of peace or of military — and, if the latter who/what is the “power and the victory”?
  8. In conclusion — joy is described in what chronological frame? (Zechariah 9:17)
