Guiding Questions: Psalms 23

This is part of the Tanakh Yomi Project.

  1. Why would God be compared to a shepherd?
  2. Should this Psalm be considered as one of thanks and/or confidence?
  3. Do the green meadows and tranquil waters refer to this life or, possibly, to the after-life?
  4. Is the total darkness of Psalms 23:4 of this world or of the world to come?
  5. What type of table is prepared for the Psalmist before his adversaries?
  6. Does the closing Psalms 23:6 refer to this life since the phrase “all the days of my life” appears, or does it make reference to the after-life “for days without end”; or is this simply a poetic reference for a very long life?
