Guiding Questions: I Kings 20

This is part of the Tanakh Yomi Project.

  1. At the beginning of our chapter, how might we characterize the type of relationship King Ahab has with the God of Israel?
  2. When the prophet tells the King of Israel to “go strengthen yourself” (I Kings 20:22), what might be the intended meaning of this message?
  3. Can you make any sense out of the prophet’s request for his friend to “strike me now” (I Kings 20:35)? How does this story fit into the narrative of the chapter?
  4. What is the shoresh (root) of “chermi” in I Kings 20:42 and how does this information help us better understand what this word truly means?
