Tanakh Yomi

Tanakh Yomi is a program that supports the study of the Tanakh every day and complete the entire Hebrew Bible in a single year.

Here’s how it works:

Every weekday (including Sundays), we read a few chapters from the Neviim (Prophets) and Ketuvim (Writings), which are collectively known as Nach. On Shabbat, we read the weekly Torah portions (like we do in synagogue). Some folks may prefer to read a single aliyah on each day of the week.

What do I actually do?

Take some time, open up your Tanakh, and read the text.

If you want to read it in Hebrew, lovely. If you want to read it in translation, that’s cool too. If you have one at home, great! If not, you can go to sefaria.org

Want to dig deeper and unpack the text? We have discussion guides that can be found here on Exploring Judaism and are linked in the “Dig Deeper” section by book. You can also find lots of commentaries on Sefaria.

We encourage you to discuss your learning with others! If you post on social media, we’ll be using #tanakhyomi. We’ve also put together a Facebook Group as a place to discuss and learn together. Feel free to join!

When do we start?

Officially, we will start when the new cycle begins when Simchat Torah ends, on October 25th, 2024.

What happens if I missed the start date?

You can start today! While we have a schedule and a group, the goal is just to be learning regularly. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Just get started!

Or, because of the schedule, we start a new book of Nach, every few weeks. So, if you prefer to start at the beginning of a new book, check the schedule to see when we’re starting a new book.
