Counting The Omer
Counting the Omer, sefirat haomer, is a daily mitzvah from the second night of Passover until Shavuot. Seven weeks of seven days for a total of forty-nine days.
The mitzvah of Counting the Omer, Sefirat haOmer, comes from the verse in the Torah, Leviticus 23:10, in which we’re commanded to bring the barley harvest to the Temple on Shavuot. In preparation, we count the days between the second night of Passover and Shavuot.
This period has become one of reflection and spiritual focus over the centuries.
